Coconut sugar is a plant-based, natural sweetener that is regarded as a better alternative to refined sugar. It retains many nutrients found in the coconut palm — mostly B vitamins, phosphorous, copper, vitamin C, magnesium, iron, zinc, calcium, and potassium. It is not refined or chemically altered and contains no artificial ingredients or synthetic substances. It undergoes very little processing, so it is able to retain some of its natural vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. It also contains the soluble fiber called inulin, which is linked to a lower risk of blood sugar spikes as it slows down glucose absorption and improves gut health.
